With the last couple of updates with Chrome 68 and Chrome 69, Google has adopted Windows 10’s native notifications system.

With this change, the default interaction behavior of Chrome notifications was changed. Notifications began to auto-hide even if the option was not selected on our dashboard.

As we had advised in our last couple of posts, there was a simple work around. Simply add an action button on the notification, and it will stay in place till your subscriber interacted with it.

Now, Google has finally fixed the interaction model and by default web push notifications on Windows 10 include a Close button so that it does not auto-hide.

If you add your own action button, then this close button is removed. So, in either case the notification will remain on-screen till the user interacts with it. This is a great move by Google, it gives the users the chance to interact with the notification and also helps marketers get more conversions.

The Google Chrome 70 for Windows 10 has already started rolling out and should be available across all Windows 10 devices within a couple of weeks.

Google has been constantly making inroads into making notifications a great experience for users across platforms.
