Chromium-based Microsoft Edge Browser Web Push Notifications Support<\/p><\/div>\n

Microsoft has released a new Edge browser, and it is based on Chromium, the same technology that powers the Google Chrome browser. The new Edge browser is available<\/a> for Windows, MacOS, Android and iPhone.<\/p>\n

Notifications in the new Edge browser work the same as before and follow the same guidelines as Chrome. PushAlert has been testing the new Edge browser for some time now, and we have already made sure the transition goes smoothly.<\/p>\n

There are a few things to note with the upgrade. In the new version of Edge all the previous notification permissions are retained. This means that your subscribers would not have to opt-in again for any of the websites they have granted web push notification permissions to.<\/p>\n

However, cookies and service-worker files are not getting transferred in the upgrade, so your users would have to visit the site at least once to start receiving notifications, even if they had allowed permission earlier. These subscribers will also get a new subscriber identifier (subs_id).<\/p>\n

Microsoft has taken a huge step in helping create a more coherent and standards-compliant web. Moreover, they have ensured a smooth transition for web push subscribers with the update.
